Four Jones Day lawyers named 2023 "Rising Stars" by Law360

Four Jones Day lawyers have been named to annual "Rising Stars" list by Law360, a leading U.S. legal news organization, for 2023. The list recognizes the legal profession's top talent under the age of 40. The winners are selected based on their professional accomplishments in their areas of practice. Mr. Ball is a partner in the Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Practice, based in the Irvine Office. His recent accomplishments include obtaining complete dismissal and affirmance on appeal in a precedent-setting case narrowing the scope of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the complete dismissal of one of the largest data breach cases ever to proceed to trial, and summary judgment and affirmance on appeal of a large-scale trade secret misappropriation case. Mr. Ball is a highly skilled strategist and advocate who has attained significant success for clients across a range of complex class action defense issues. He regularly advises clients on emerging technologies, data collection and analytics, artificial intelligence, fintech, and related legal and regulatory risks. His track record has put him at the forefront of high-stakes cybersecurity and data privacy litigation matters.

Mr. de la Parra is of counsel in the Financial Markets Practice, based in the Mexico City Office. His recent achievements on behalf of clients include developing and executing the legal structure of a $2.1 billion revolving loan agreement for the federal government in Mexico that was named "2023 Structured Finance Deal of the Year" by Latin Finance, advising a syndicate of lenders on a $300 million green credit facility for the largest mixed use real estate project in Mexico City, and representing Mexican development banks that provided a $300 million bridge loan for a refinery modernization project. Mr. de la Parra has extensive experience in cross-border corporate transactions in Latin America, the United States, Europe, and Asia, and particular knowledge of the key players in the Mexican government, as well in the financial and corporate markets in Mexico and Latin America.

Ms. Ghaul is a partner in Firm's Business Restructuring & Reorganization Practice, based in New York.  Her recent achievements on behalf of clients include serving as counsel to the agent of a $33 million debtor-in-possession credit facility and stalking horse bidder in connection with a $690 million credit bid for a beauty company, counsel to a global supplier in the automotive and commercial vehicle markets in their Chapter 11 cases involving approximately $400 million of assets, and advising a $700 million floral and gifting company in the sale of their three distinct businesses through a multipronged sale process. Ms. Ghaul represents clients in chapter 11 proceedings, out-of-court restructurings, section 363 sales and other distressed transactions, bankruptcy litigation, and mass tort matters. She has served clients in a variety of industries, including retail, automotive, energy, mining, and telecom.

Ms. Israel-Trummel is a partner in the Labor & Employment Practice, based in San Francisco. Her professional highlights from the prior year included winning a published opinion on appeal in favor of a client who was sued in a statewide Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) lawsuit in California challenging compensation calculations, the successful defense of a major technology company in another statewide PAGA action for allegedly unreimbursed work-from-home expenses, and resolving a contentious statewide class and PAGA action for a health care company involving a number of novel legal issues.  She has more than a decade of experience representing employers in labor and employment matters, including wage and hour, discrimination, and wrongful termination cases, and has developed particular experience in complex wage and hour class actions and PAGA litigation.
