Jones Day’s Perth Office hosted an evening with The Hon. Julie Bishop, the former Minister for Foreign Affairs and former Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, on July 3, 2019. The evening was to launch a seminal work for the offshore oil and gas industry, being a practical guide to contracting for offshore oil and gas developments from ‘cradle to grave’. The Hon. Julie Bishop set the scene by speaking about Australia’s future as an energy super power. This included noting that, in November and December 2018, Australia temporarily became the world's largest LNG exporter (although Qatar had regained the top spot in early 2019) and Australia is forecast to surpass Qatar as the world’s largest LNG exporter (on an annual basis) when exports reach 79 million tonnes. Australia’s trade relationship with China will play a key role in all of this moving forward.
The authors, Philip Loots and Dr. Donald Charrett, then shared some of the key ideas explored in the book and drivers behind its creation.
Perth Partner-in-Charge Adam Salter and Global Disputes Partner Stephen McComish led a Q&A session, which included questions from the floor.
